Have you ever wondered what it would be like to fly to the moon on an airplane? well, this was the exact question that Yusaki Maezawa asked himself since he was a little kid.
“Ever since I was a kid I have loved the Moon, just staring at the Moon fueled my imagination, it’s always there and has continued to inspire humanity. That is why I could not pass up this opportunity to see the Moon up close, but at the same time I did not want to have such a fantastic experience by myself, that would be a bit lonely. I want to share this experience with as many people as possible,” said Maezawa to the press that attended to the SpaceX presentation on Sept. 10th explaining the reason why he is so fascinated with the idea of being the first private astronaut to fly to the moon with artists.
Just a few decades ago only the NASA had access to the moon. With a mission in their lives and a long period of 4 years, only 24 astronauts had the privilege of actually seeing the moon up close. However, the numbers in this list of astronauts will continue to rise thanks to the project #DearMoon created by the Japanese Billionaire, Yusaku Maezawa, who after being in love with the moon during all of his childhood has finally been able to plan his big dream. Take people to the moon so that this can be used as a natural inspiration and to promote world peace.
Does it sound like an outrageous idea? This isn’t it. Elon Musk, founder and CEO of SpaceX and Maezawa, are planning to make this trip possible in only 30 minutes and the initial fee will between $200,000 and $300,000, at a minimum.
“What will they see? What will they feel? What will they create?
– Yusaku Maezawa
These are the questions that this fashion visionary billionaire asks, whom with Musk’s help also plans to make this possible by 2023. “I wish to create amazing works of art for humankind,” Maezawa said.

Now, you might be asking yourself what relationship does this really have to fashion? Well, this fashion Guru wants to invite to his trip, fashion designers who will be able to observe and use the moon as an inspiration for future projects. Thanks to his dream and hard work, Maezawa, is opening doors and giving the opportunity to those who have the talent to use it as an inspiration and turn into a work of art that will be shared with the world. This will also help reinvent the way designers interact with their inspirations, inviting them to experiment with these new techniques. Also, this opportunity will make people break patterns, and could possibly facilitate future Access to the moon.
Astronomy without a doubt has been a common inspiration in fashion, just like we saw in “I feel Blue” from Fall 2017 RTW Christian Dior and “Galactic Glamour” from Valentino Pre Fall 2015, but we have never seen a collection from a designer that has legitimately traveled the moon and used its textures, colors, surfaces and silhouettes.
Can you imagine the collections of brands like Off-White or Acne Studios if they were to ride to the moon with Maezawa?
